Overview
Approached by London based architects, we supported the reconstruction of the former Next Shop in Carlisle to a travel agency. Initial surveys and inspections revealed a number of damaged repairs, undersized members and decaying timber, requiring a careful remedial works design alongside the structural changes needed to accommodate the needs of a modern shop.
Further Project Information
Additional loads associated with photovoltaic cells on the roof required consideration and strengthening works from the top down. Water ingress and damage to the steelwork supporting the shop front at basement level also required careful management, resulting in some haste design solutions developed on the critical path. The travel agents opened in January 2024.
