Modifying a Home for Access

When a house came up for sale opposite their Daughter’s, Mr and Mrs Tait purchased the property and renovated to suit their own needs.

Mr and Mrs Tait were living with their daughter and her family on Scotby Road when the house opposite came up for sale.   Bill had just recovered from surgery and had previously lived with a large garden which he enjoyed during his retirement.  Following the purchase of the property, Bill approached Kingmoor Consulting to come up with some ideas to adapt the home for their use.

Both struggled with stairs and with a number of existing rear extensions to the property, the property needed refreshed for their needs.  With a large extended family often visiting, it was decided to renovate the upstairs of the existing property for guests and reconfigure downstairs for use by the Bill and his wife.

A small lean too extension was demolished and an infill single story extension created with kitchen and rear facing sitting room.  A former pitched roof extension created a downstairs bedroom with walk in shower and ensuite adapted to suit their needs.  New bifold doors open onto the garden and in March 2019, a new terrace was added to allow safe access down to the garden.

Both have adapted to the new light filled space and only on occasion visit upstairs to prepare rooms for grand children and great grand children.
