Historic Conversion of Shops

A property in Whitehaven had a number of sales fall through after a homebuyers survey reported subsidence.  structural investigation and remedial works secured the sale of the property.

The site overlooking Whitehaven Harbour, had a number of issues associated with the front elevation to the property.  The property had formally been a large shop servicing the local community and a historic conversion of the property had created a large family home with a harbour view.

Rendering to the front elevation had been undertaken as part of the conversion,  and defects associated with the render had been identified as subsidence by Homebuyers Surveys.  Inspection of the property by Kingmoor Consulting and removal of some of the render identified that the former large shop front openings had been rendered over.  The timber and steelwork present behind the render had allowed moisture to pass between the render and wall section resulting in corrosion and rot in the lintel sections.  Removal of the damaged timbers, and re-rendering using suitable modern products allowed the structure to remain stable.
